Welcome to The Chain Gang Cycle Tours Blog
Fully guided bike tours through beautiful regions of France, Italy & the UK Gourmet food, great wines, gorgeous scenery. John F Kennedy said, "Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride." Well, I'm bound to agree.

Three fabulous videos for you to enjoy.

1. A spectacular downhill race across an urban landscape.

My nephew, Kai, tells me this is in Spain, and I believe him. Sent in by Judith Lacy. Watch it for the two bits where you will gasp out loud. You’ll know which bits they are!

2. A lad having fun on his bike.

This was filmed on Dartmoor, I believe, which we visit on our Devon tour.

Skip past the first 30 seconds where a teenager tries to be cool without realising how stupid teenagers appear to grown-ups.

Then indulge him for a further 30 seconds of ‘outtakes’ where you can see the stunts going a little bit wrong. But then watch the final 4 minutes in open-mouthed amazement at the stupidity, the bravery and the beauty of youth!

3. What can I say about this video?

Can you ride a bike backwards, on one wheel, with your sister stood on your shoulders? No? This German girl can, and so can her sister.

Astonishingly, if you look closely, it appears there are some empty seats in the arena. That is just too disrepectful.

THIS is what can be done on a bike, and it’s simply amazing.

Thanks for posting these Bernard – unbelievable! I love how on the Spanish downhill one, after one of the particularly huge leaps (around 2’30″) you can hear him chortling to himself. Literally laughing in the face of danger!

The downhill race is actually the Valparaiso Cerro Abajo in Chile. Valpo is a beautiful city set on a bay of steep hills overlooking the Pacific – the more orthodox way of descending to the lower levels of the town is by one of a dozen near vertical funicular railways which have been in service since the late 19th century. If you look carefully at the start of the video you’ll see that the rider is wearing what appears to be a pin-stripe suit…
